Every five years, the approx. 1.7 million constituents in the Stuttgart Region decide who will represent their interests in the Regional Assembly. The members of the Regional Assembly are elected by proportional representation (lists). Every constituent has one vote. The Regional Assembly has at least 80 and at most 96 lay delegates. There are therefore a possible 16 compensatory seats to ensure that the proportion of seats in the Assembly corresponds both to the result of the votes in the individual wards and to the proportion of the total number of votes given in the Stuttgart Region. There are 88 delegates in the current 6th Regional Assembly.
The wards consist of the Stuttgart City District and the five rural districts of Böblingen, Esslingen, Göppingen, Ludwigsburg and the Rems-Murr District. The next regional elections will be held in 2024.
