Participating in European networks is a central aspect of the Stuttgart Region's European involvement. Own interests can be represented more effectiveley and objectives achieved more easily by joining forces with others. Partners learn from each other by sharing experiences and examples of best practice. Networks offer lasting contacts to European regions and potential project partners. Verband Region Stuttgart takes actively part in the following networks: 

The European metropolitan regions and agglomerations have joined forces in METREX (The Network of European Metropolitan Regions and Areas). The aim of this network is to provide a platform for the exchange of experiences in the fields of spatial planning and regional development issues as well as to speak for the common interests of the metropolitan regions. 

Due to its responsibility for local public transport, Verband Region Stuttgart is an associated member of EMTA (European Metropolitan Transport Authorities). Cooperation in this respect intends to improve mobility management and enhance the quality of local public transport.  

Transport management and technologies are the central issues addressed by Polis (European Cities and Regions Networking for Innovative Transport Solutions). Besides Verband Region Stuttgart, the State Capital of Stuttgart has a share in this network. Polis is actively involved in the EU policy process and opens doors to its members for participating in European projects. Furthermore, Polis organizes regular conferences and expert meetings in which Stuttgart Region participates.    

Since early 2009, Verband Region Stuttgart has been the first German region to be a strategic supporter of the platform of the Covenant of Mayors. This involvement in the Covenant of Mayors aims at giving the municipalities in the Stuttgart Region direct access to new findings in the field of climate protection. In particular, smaller local authorities benefit from receiving the latest information about available courses of action and funding possibilities. The Covenant of Mayors also provides a European platform for presenting the wide range of climate protection activities being pursued by Verband Region Stuttgart.
