Im Rahmen der deutschen EU-Ratspräsidentschaft werden entscheidende Weichen für die Entwicklung von Europas Städten und Metropolregionen gestellt. So werden Ende 2020 sowohl die weiterentwickelte Leipzig-Charta als auch die Territoriale Agenda der Europäischen Union von den nationalen Regierungen unterzeichnet.

Beide Strategien setzen neue Maßstäbe für die europäische Raumordnungs- und Stadtpolitik. Dabei spielen Metropolregionen eine immer größere Bedeutung. Schließlich kann keine Stadt allein die Herausforderungen der Zukunft meistern. Themen wie nachhaltige Mobilität, bezahlbarer Wohnraum, Industrieansiedlungen in Zeiten des Strukturwandels, Infrastrukturmaßnahmen, Freiraumschutz und -entwicklung sowie die Bereitstellung erneuerbarer Energien können nur in Zusammenarbeit zwischen Städten und ihrem Umland erfolgreich angegangen werden. Die drei Metropolregionen Stuttgart, FrankfurtRheinMain und Rhein-Neckar liefern hierfür passende Beispiele.

Wie geht es nach der Verabschiedung der beiden Strategien weiter? Welche Maßnahmen und Schritte werden für eine erfolgreiche Umsetzung eingeleitet? Wie können Metropolregionen dazu beitragen? Diese und weitere Fragen werden im Gespräch mit Vertretern der europäischen und nationalen Ebene in der Landesvertretung Baden-Württemberg bei der EU in Brüssel diskutiert und live übertragen.

During the German European Union Council Presidency, decisive steps are being taken for the development of Europe's cities and metropolitan regions. At the end of 2020, the revised Leipzig Charter and the Territorial Agenda of the EU will be signed by the national governments.

Both strategies set new standards for European spatial planning and urban policy. Metropolitan regions play an increasingly important role in this, because a city alone cannot meet the challenges of the future. Topics such as sustainable mobility, affordable housing, industrial settlements in times of structural change, infrastructure measures, open space protection and development, as well as the provision of renewable energies can only be successfully tackled in cooperation between cities and their surroundings. The three metropolitan regions of Stuttgart, FrankfurtRheinMain and Rhein-Neckar provide best practices for this.

What happens after the two strategies have been adopted? What necessary measures and steps are being taken for a successful implementation? How can metropolitan regions foster this process? These and other questions will be discussed in a dialogue with representatives of the European and national level in the Representation of the State of Baden-Württemberg to the European Union in Brussels.
