With its high-profile races, the Stuttgart region has become an important venue for road cycling in Germany – both for professional and amateur athletes. The Stuttgart Region Association has made a significant contribution to this with its support. Together with the state capital Stuttgart, it has sponsored events such as the Women’s Cycling Grand Prix Stuttgart & Region and the Brezel Race Stuttgart & Region: The region most recently provided 250,000 euros in annual support for these events. With this funding amount now as the sole public subsidy, the events will continue in 2026. Due to the change in funding, the two races will start in a new form on September 13 as the "Women's Cycling Grand Prix Region Stuttgart" and "Brezel Race Region Stuttgart" in one of the districts of the Stuttgart region.
elite sports
The new race format "Women's Cycling Grand Prix Stuttgart & Region" celebrated its premiere in 2023. It is the only one-day race in Germany for professional female cyclists in the second-highest international category, "UCI ProSeries." With this, the Stuttgart Region Association is sending a strong signal in women's sports. It has been held three times so far – starting in Tamm (2023), Böblingen (2024), and Filderstadt (2025). An attractive supporting program offers experiences related to cycling. More information can be found here.
The Stuttgart Region has also been very active in professional cycling in previous years: since the reintroduction of the Deutschland Tour in 2018, Stuttgart and the region have been the final destination of the professional tour twice, with the finish line in downtown Stuttgart, namely in 2018 and 2022. This was a big day for sport in the Stuttgart region, which was supported by the Stuttgart Region Association with a low six-figure sum. More information about the Deutschland Tour
The Stuttgart Region Association also sponsored the German Road Cycling Championships in 2021.
mass sports
However, it is not only professional sports that are supported by the Stuttgart Region Association, but also popular sports, which are in high demand: as part of the 2018 Tour of Germany, amateur athletes were able to prove themselves for the first time in the "Jedermann Tour" on closed routes with varying degrees of difficulty. It was a successful premiere, which was followed by a sequel: The "Brezel Race Stuttgart & Region" took place for the first time in 2021. Over 2,000 amateur cyclists "pretzeled" their way through the region in conjunction with the women's professional race. Participants had the opportunity to get on their road bikes themselves on a short or long route and enjoy the thrilling atmosphere under the same conditions as the professionals. The routes lead over undulating terrain – typical for the Stuttgart region. The popular sports race also enjoyed great popularity in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Most recently, 4,000 cycling fans took part. It gets its special appeal from the combination with the elite race.
